A limited edition work, being numbered 1473 of 1825. Numbers 1 to 900 were for sale in Great Britain and Ireland, numbers 901 to 1800 were for sale in the United States of America, and numbers 1801 to 1825 were for presentation. Signed by George Moore to the edition page. Aphrodite in Aulis' was George Moore's last novel.
The novel revolves around an ancient Greek family who moves to Aulis, where statues of Aphrodite come to life. Moore was an Irish novelist who was best known for being a naturalist writer. He was one of the first English-language writers to incorporate the French realist inspirations into his work, especially Emile Zola. In the publisher's original full vellum binding.
Externally, with some discolouration to the boards and spine, as is usual with this type of binding. Very minor marking to the boards.
Bookplate to the front pastedown, belonging to a K. Pages are bright and clean. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear.
Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy.
