The early origins of her painting career are rooted in the discipline of plein-air painting. Born and raised in Texas, Coulter moved to California after attending The University of Texas and the College of New Jersey, where she graduated with a BA in Art Therapy. While living in Laguna Beach, she continued her pursuit of landscape painting with post-graduate study at The Laguna College of Art and Design.

Now a professional artist for over twenty-five years, she continues to be a close observer of nature and brings into her studio the artistic language acquired through countless drawings and color studies made outdoors.
