Edgar was an American Pulitzer Prize winning journalist known for his writing on international events, especially pre- WWII Nazi Germany. His wife Lilian was also a journalist and accomplished writer in her own right. Edgar's brother was Paul Scott Mowrer, the editor of the Chicago Daily News, and also a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, as well as Poet Laureate of New Hampshire.
